About The Summit
Globally, agriculture faces its worst ever challenge in production of all major grains to sustain the continuously increasing population. Constraints on agricultural production are further amplified by reduction in arable land, availability of water and supply of power at economical rates. The climatic change and its impact on agriculture especially in the developing countries need to be addressed as a priority. The depletion of the global food reserves, after “The Great Wheat Panic of 2007” has seen the global bourses plunging and thus straining the world’s economy.
Sensing this crisis ASSOCHAM sees this as an opportunity for organizing the ASSOCHAM's 6th Global Knowledge Millennium Summit on "Biotechnology and Nanotechnology for Sustainable Agriculture": - Eradicate Global Hunger and Ensure Food Security from 13th-14th February 2009 in partnership with Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GOI, Ministry of Agriculture, GOI , Ministry of Science and Technology, GOI. The strategic state partners are Government of West Bengal, Government of Gujarat, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and Anand Agriculture University. We expect partnership of many more stakeholders.
We are honored to have the world-renowned Dr. Philip Nelson, World Food Prize Laureate 2007 from USA as the from Millennium Speaker. The summit will be inaugurated by Shri Sharad Pawar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture and Consumers Affairs on the 13th February, 2009. The summit will be inaugurated by Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Hon’ble Minister of State for Food Processing on the 14th February, 2009.
