Background and Rationale
Continued growth of the rural sector especially agriculture is important for ensuring food and nutritional security as well as for enhancing purchasing power of the rural poor. The issues of food security, food safety, and food quality are becoming further challenging as demand for food increases in national and international markets. To meet these challenges rural economy especially agriculture must attain a healthy growth. The pre-requisite to unleash growth of Indian agriculture is technology application supported with investment in the rural infrastructure.
Government of India has been pressing to achieve 4 percent annual growth in agriculture. In this scenario agricultural science and technology has potential to meet supply side challenges but requires larger investments for a longer period. In fact this is high time to bring reforms in the primary sector to ensure credit flow, a good risk mitigation system, an efficient extension services and marketing mechanisms for enforcing backward and forward farm linkages.
Keeping in view the above background ASSOCHAM is organizing a day long Summit on Green Revolution II to bring stakeholders cutting across the domains together to deliberate on how to share the science and technology resources as well as services for enabling healthy growth in agriculture. There will also be deliberations on national and global issues of concern so as to promote agricultural growth and enhance scientific research efficiency as well as foster partnerships to pave way for evergreen revolution.
