Introduction

As you may kindly be aware, ASSOCHAM is the oldest leading APEX CHAMBER set up in 1920, catering directly and indirectly to over 3,50,000 members from all over the country with 300 regional Chambers associated with it.  ASSOCHAM has also positioned itself as the “Knowledge Chamber” with 100 ASSOCHAM National Councils, heading different segments of Industry.

ASSOCHAM has undertaken certain initiatives in the area of reforms in education especially in the country’s need to improve the gross enrollment ratio in higher education.  A lot has been done but a lot more needs to be done.  Major hindrances and hurdles inhibiting its growth need to be removed while ensuring quality and employability in Higher education system.

In fact, India’s education sector has witnessed an enormous growth over the past few years.  Today, India has the largest number of institutions, second largest in terms of enrollment with largest education system in existence.  But still country’s education system faces challenges on several fronts.  The need of the hour is creation of an employable workforce to harness its demographic dividend.
