Introduction
With the present time being tougher for the organizations across the world, there is an increasing concern for business efficiency. Global organization, global production and global sales all demand that the flow of goods must be well organized along the entire value chain. There is a strong need for hinterland connectivity and greater efficiency in logistics support and transport facilities.
Eventually, the prime focus of the logistics services providers is towards responding to ever increasing demand of end users, who need speedier and cost effective services in this fastpaced and competitive world.
The liberalizing Indian economy is experiencing entry of large domestic and global firms in new businesses as well as enlargement of distribution network of many regional Indian firms.
There have been several instances where firms have undertaken innovative redesign of their logistics systems to enhance the effectiveness of their network in order to deliver value to their customers. For the success of supply chain at the organization level, it is imperative that evacuation of cargo from the port and movement to the port areas have to be properly synchoronised so as to have seamless functioning of inter-modal network. For which it is critically important to have improved road and rail connectivity. In response to the evolving scenario, Government has taken number of policy initiatives to augment the availability of infrastructure in the country. While the demand for physical infrastructure is ever increasing, a larger requirement is being felt for use of IT in logistic management.
In order to discuss various issues, concepts and trend associated with the development of logistics sector, ASSOCHAM is organizing National Conference on “Building Logistics for the Competitive Trade” on 18 December 2008 at ASSOCHAM House, 47 Prithvi Raj Road in New Delhi.
