Taxation

ASSOCHAM Taxation Council comprises of Direct, Indirect and International taxes has always worked closely with the Finance Ministry & played a proactive role in the development of India’s tax and trade policies. It works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes & to bridge the gaps that exists between policymaking, policy interpretation, and policy application.

It interacts with key government officials from Ministry of Finance and disseminates information through publications, conferences, seminars. It created awareness about the various initiatives of the Finance Ministry by organizing programs on regular intervals on the topical issues and the recommendations received during the programs were well acclaimed by the Finance Ministry.

We played a very significant role in creating awareness about VAT in the country by holding numerous conferences in various parts of the country and bringing our many specialized papers on the same. On Service tax ASSOCHAM organized more than 50 programs including Masterclasses across the country to update the members about the relevant issues concerning the Industry. We also partnered with CBIC during the roll out of Negative list of Services under Service tax regime. On draft Direct tax Code we formed group of top experts from Tax profession who worked relentlessly in preparing our important recommendations on DTC. In the case of GST, ASSOCHAM embarked upon the process of training and awareness in a big way, which has been of paramount importance in the smooth roll-out of GST. We have conducted more than 100 seminars in past few years to reach out to the widest audience possible. For Traders, we organized 100 training programs on GST in the tier II and III cities to make them aware about the importance of GST. Even Post implementation of GST, we are continuously taking up the issues and concerns of the trade and industry in the form of representations related to various sectors with the GST Council.

It is also in our regular practice year on year basis to organize Pre Budget & Post Budget interaction for our Industry constituents, in which a detailed interaction takes place & the recommendations of the discussion are sent to the Ministry of Finance. Our Pre budget recommendations have always been very helpful for the Govt in drafting the proposals related to the Union budget.
