tandardization is providing handholding services to implement the Indian National Strategy for standardization (INSS) underlines the role of a harmonized, Dynamic and mature standards framework in establishing a robust quality ecosystem in the country, and the need to position standards as a key driver of all economic activities relating to goods and services. The council also flags the limitations of the present system of standard development and emphasizes the urgent need to create fora and processes to articulate and assess the needs for standards in different sectors. The council was established under Standard National Action Plan (SNAP) to address this need.

tandardization Council will facilitate consultations and dialogue among the members of the industry as well as with the professional bodies, scientific organizations, academic institution and domain area experts related to that field on the identification of new areas for development of standards, revision of existing standards and harmonizing Indian Standards with International standards, and will also help in optimizing the involvement of industries in the standard development process and better coordination with Bureau of Indian Standards. The council also works on following:

·         Identification of products for which there are no standards at present and there is a need for Indian Standards for such products
·         Identification of products for which Standards are old need to be modernized
·         Identification of products for which QCO could be prepared
·         Identification of products with high imports and injurious to Indian Industry
·         Specific industry wise policy measures required to rejuvenate the specific industry
