ASSOCHAM has always been a frontrunner in disseminating vital information and taking the cause of the member of trade and industry to the government, especially in the case of taxation related matters. In the recent Union budget several amendments have been made by the Finance Act which have serious repercussions on industry in respect of indirect taxes.
By the Finance Act 2014 more power have been given to the Central government regarding the furnishing of information, keeping of records, manner in which verification of such record will be made wherein already there are huge power with the officers which are being misused to harass the assesses.
The Finance Act 2014 has also introduced the provisions of compulsory deposit for filing an appeal whereas by the budgetary notification interest payable by the assessee on delay of payment of service tax has been hiked upto 30% per annum. There are several other amendments including obligatory furnishing of return to another authority to be created by the Central government. By the budgetary notification, availability of the CENVAT credit has been seriously affected it will increase the cost of production and the cost of rendition of services.
All such changes would be having serious consequences on the working of the industry across the board.
