Dialogue On Trade And Economic Cooperation

11 December, 2014, ASSOCHAM Corporate Office, New Delhi

About the Event

It is a positive sign that India-ASEAN trade and investment have shown steady growth over the years and ASEAN figures prominently in government of India’s ‘Act East Policy’. While India’s trade with ASEAN has crossed US$ 76 billion, there still exists a huge untapped potential for enhancement of these relations. India’s business with ASEAN countries is only 30% of the total ASEAN trade, and concerted efforts are required to be taken towards increasing it.
India’s strategic location with a coastline of more than 7500 km, makes it a hub for exporting to various countries. The capacity augmentation, mechanization, capital dredging and corporatization of the ports, along with the process of upgrading and expanding of the shipping industry, will significantly contribute to the growth of India’s external trade especially with ASEAN countries. This makes India, an ideal choice and location, for ASEAN countries both for co-locating manufacturing plants, and for becoming an export hub. This was encapsulated in our Prime Minister’s recent call for ‘Make in India’.
Tremendous opportunities exist for cooperation between India ASEAN in the sectors of IT, infrastructure, healthcare & pharmaceuticals, financial services, agro-business and food processing industries, telecom, tourism, textiles, railways, education etc. Keeping in mind the significance of ASEAN to India’s trade and investment, ASSOCHAM is organizing a Seminar on Business Opportunities in ASEAN Countries as per the following schedule:
