The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in association with Department of Agriculture (Government of West Bengal) is organizing a summit on “Agriculture and Food Processing” with the theme “Adding values to the existing Eco-System” on 19th June, 2015 at Palladium Lounge, 6, Netaji Subhas Road, Third Level, Kolkata - 700001; at 10:00 A.M.
 
West Bengal has a very diverse nature in regards to its culture, geographical distribution, and weather. Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the State's economy and nearly three out of every four persons are involved in it.
 
Agro and food processing industries form a very important part of the state’s economy.  The West Bengal government is setting up a number of policies and plans to focus on the selected areas like vegetables, fruits, fisheries, rice, poultry, dairy, and floriculture. Some of these plans include allocation of more financial resources towards agriculture, encouraging private entrepreneurship for processing of fruits, vegetables & horticulture items amongst others.  The State Govt. is encouraging the farmers for mechanization through the use of modern agriculture implements and machines with the objective to have timely farm operation in place coupled with the reduction in the cost of production.
 
The summit would be inaugurated by Shri Purnendu Basu (Hon`ble Minister for Agriculture; Govt of West Bengal).
 
The following is the objective of the summit/expected topics to be covered:
  • Highlighting the positive aspects of Agriculture and Food Processing segments of West Bengal. The value added by Govt of West Bengal in these sectors in the last 4 years
  • The current policies of Agriculture, Food Processing and Horticulture department-Govt of West Bengal
  • The Government grants/opportunities in terms of settings of Food Processing Units.
  • Agriculture Mechanization in the state of West Bengal
  • Dehydration of vegetables for value addition
  • Discussion on Unique cropping systems
We would also be releasing a paper on the possibilities of ushering in second green revolution of East India.
 
The summit would aspire to have participation of senior government officials, entrepreneurs of Agri & Food Processing industry, purchasers of agriculture machinery and equipments amongst others.
