Fraud for centuries has been an integral part of the human society and every society defines its own methods to counter and deter fraud and deceit. Frauds continue to remain widespread enigma regardless of industry or region in which business operates. Surveys are regularly carried out to estimate the true scale and cost of fraud to business and society. While findings vary and it is difficult to ascertain the full extent of fraud, all surveys indicate that fraud is prevalent within organizations and remains a serious and costly problem. Fraud may even be increasing due to greater globalization, more competitive markets, rapid developments in technology and periods of economic difficulty.
India is an emerging country with numerous opportunities. As a potential market, it is in the blueprint of many global giants who are planning to expand business. But these opportunities come fraught with numerous risks and challenges like fraud and corruption. These risks are growing concerns for Indian companies as well. Despite the serious risk that fraud presents to business, many organizations still do not have formal systems and procedures in place to prevent, detect, and respond to fraud.
ASSOCHAM, having a very proactive approach, has decided to hold its 9th Annual Summit on “Corporate Fraud -Risk & Prevention” on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Hotel Shangri – La, New Delhi to examine the nature and perception of corporate frauds in India and their consequences in the business and economic systems, and it highlights the emerging issues so that existing legal and regulatory obligations can be redefined and structured for ethical business practices.
