Shri Nitin Gadkari
Chief Guest
Shri Nitin Gadkari
Hon’ble Union Minister for Shipping and Transport

India is endowed with a coastline of over 7,500 km. Despite natural bounty, Coastal Shipping (CS) and Inland Waterways (IWW) account for only 1% of all cargo movements in India, although it is most economical and environment friendly mode of transportation of goods. CS and IWW can significantly reduce logistics costs and curb issues relating to land acquisitions. Lower logistics and transportation cost will provide significant boost to India’s trade and commerce and make it competitive, internationally.
Investments there, in could instead be utilized for construction of jetties and connectivity. The Chamber realised that there is need for industry to get together and engage with the State and Central Government of India to discuss necessary policy reforms. This would provide an impetus to develop an enabling environment to attract investments in the sector and help the sector realise its true potential.
