Key issues pertaining to the health of the mining sector in India, today, are expediting the e-auction of major mineral blocks, setting up of District Mineral Foundation (DMF), implementation of National Mineral Exploration Policy (NMEP) and Pradhan Mantri Khanij Khethra Kalyan Yojana(PMKKKY). It will provide an enabling environment for the investors and at the same time bring a balance by providing appropriate measures to address social and environmental concerns, also to ensure that the investors get social license to operate.
States have an important role to track the adherence of time frame associated with various clearances of mineral block such as environmental & forests, mining plan, land acquisition etc. System of mining plan preparation, certification and monitoring are important steps in successful implementation of the mining project. There is an urgent need to curb illegal mining. Scheme for implementation of Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) have been designed to have a compliance mechanism for environmental and forests safeguard. This will help in recognizing good performance of the lease holders in the mining sector.
In order to discuss the above and related issues, ASSOCHAM with the support of Ministry of Mines is organizing “India Mining Summit 2016” to be held on 4th October 2016 at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi.  The theme for the Summit is “Augmenting Investment”.
