Smart manufacturing and design, referred to as “Industry 4.0” represent a basket of new digitally-enabled technologies that include advances in production-equipment (e.g. 3-D printing, robotics, and adaptive CNC Mills), smart finished products (e.g. connected cars, devices with embedded sensors and software), data processing and analytics tools across the value chain. Industry  4.0  is  a  meeting  of  real  and  virtual  worlds  in manufacturing  and  involves  the  full  integration  of  manufacturing  technologies  and systems to make a 'smart factory' and linking of all productive units in an economy.

Indian Manufacturing sector contributed 15% to the country’s GDP in 2014-15 and only 2% to the world’s manufacturing output. To boost the manufacturing sector, the Government has set a target to increase manufacturing’s share in GDP to 25% and create 100 million jobs by 2022. To achieve this, the Government has introduced the flagship “Make in India” program which aims at facilitating investments, encouraging innovation and building best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure to boost manufacturing activities in India.

ASSOCHAM believes that the “Make in India” vision converges with “Industry 4.0” evolution which marks the next big wave of technology-driven manufacturing transformation. India is thus uniquely positioned to tap into the potential of a new type of industrialization.  “Industry 4.0” enabled by the Internet-of-Things is being called the 4th Industrial Revolution, as it allows the physical and digital worlds to converge across all layers of production to completely transform manufacturing operations and achieve higher levels of efficiency.

To understand the intricacies & the way forward, ASSOCHAM, proposes to organize an International Conference on “Industry 4.0 : Smart Manufacturing” as “Enabler for Enhanced Competitiveness of Indian Manufacturing Sector” on Thursday, 20th October, 2016 at Hotel Taj Mahal, Mansingh Raod, New Delhi.
