According to the World Bank Report, South Asia has nearly US $ 2.6 trillion in shared GDP. Estimates reported by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat in 2015 indicated that intra SAARC trade was around US $ 28-30 billion per year. However, while overall trade flows are growing, intra regional trade among countries is still less than 5 per cent of total trade.
Across the world, education and empowering women has proven time and again to be the catalyst for rapid socio economic growth. However, despite the recent economic growth and changing social norms, dramatic Gender Inequities persist in South Asia.
SAARC has progressed it’s understanding of how to deal with Women’s issues in the region, which initially took a ‘Women in Development’ approach but slowly shifted to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. This has given ample opportunity for us to address Women’s issues in a positive way through training, information and participation in decision making and advocacy.
With this objective, The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, along with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India proposes to organize the BIMSTEC-SAARC WOMEN ECONOMIC FORUM with the Theme “Women in Development” on 13th January, 2017 at The Leela Palace, New Delhi from 09:30 am.
Women representatives from BIMSTEC - SAARC countries and their Business Chambers are being invited for the WOMEN ECONOMIC FORUM.
On behalf of ASSOCHAM, we cordially invite you to this meaningful program.
