About Event

The agriculture and allied sector continues to be pivotal to the sustainable growth and development of the Indian economy. Not only does it meet the food and nutritional requirements of 1.3 billion Indians, it contributes significantly to production, employment and demand generation through various backward and forward linkages. Moreover, the role of the agricultural sector in alleviating poverty and in ensuring the sustainable development of the economy is well established. The sector has remained backbone of the Indian economy and presently accounts for 15% of the country's GDP. Nearly 58% of the rural households rely on agriculture as their principal means of livelihood.

India has a vast network for developing technologies for agricultural and allied sectors. The research institutions spread vastly among the various Ministries in the central government, state government institutions and private sector. Learning from each other among the stakeholders and providing focus to the new generation technologies in agriculture has always remain a challenge. In this context private sector is emerging as an important player in erecting and supporting research and development in all spheres of agriculture, be it input related technologies, on farm technologies or post-harvest technologies. An inclusive and resourceful agriculture segment can be created if the government authorities equip farmers to partner with emerging startups.
