The Direct Selling Industry offers economic benefits to a nation and has been recognized worldwide as it advances trade and facilitates the economy by promoting alternative sources of income, self-employment, self-sufficiency, the setting up of micro-enterprises, and entrepreneurship. In countries like Mexico, which have similar socio-economic structures, with one-tenth of India's population, the size of the Direct Selling Industry is at least eight times bigger. Indian Direct Selling Industry promotes self-employment in the country which supports 4.03 Millions of individuals approximately. ASSOCHAM believes that Direct Selling Industry still has to reach its true potential viz-a-viz business and trade volume.
The Indian Direct Selling Industry feels that the law in its current form is unable to distinguish between genuine Direct Selling Companies from pyramid and ponzi schemes and this had resulted in alleged harassment/ criminal action against the industry. To resolve the problem, the Department of Consumer Affairs has introduced guidelines for Direct Selling. But on ground, Direct Sellers in India are facing an enormous challenge due to absence of legislation and a proper regulatory framework. The industry aims to continue creating business opportunities for youth, women and men and expected to empower them. The industry has potential to create over 10 Mn entrepreneurs by 2022 along with skill development and benefits to Indian consumers.
Therefore, with a view to discussing various economic opportunities and challenges in Direct Selling Industry, ASSOCHAM is organizing a “Regional Conference on Promoting Direct Selling for Developing Entrepreneurship And Job Creation” at 10:30 a.m. on July 26, 2018 at Hotel TAJ MG Road, 41/3, M G Road, Bangalore. The Conference would bring all stakeholders together and would suggest an effective eco-system where Direct Selling Companies can grow and contribute in job creation, develop entrepreneurship, bring in investments and benefits to the consumers at large.
In view of the importance of the subject, we would request you to kindly participate in this important Conference and also nominate your colleagues to attend the same.
Looking forward to hearing from you and with kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
