Special Remarks
H.E. Mrs. Mukta Datta Tomar, Ambassador of India to Germany
In this financial year, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has impacted over 71,45,539 people worldwide - a scourge confronting all of humanity, impacting lifestyles, businesses and economies. Countries have imposed travel and assembly restrictions and lockdown.
The impact is unusual. It is both a supply and demand shock, due to preventive behavior of individuals and the transmission control policies of governments. Economic activity has been shutdown to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The COVID-19 shock will trigger a recession in some countries and a deceleration of growth in others. A central part of policy response has to address economic inequalities in the global economy.
As an apex industry body, ASSOCHAM is fully committed to support the Government of India in ensuring business continuity with India’s major trade and investment partners.
