In typical coal or diesel-based power system, about 30% of the primary energy is converted to usable form rest is wasted as heat to the environment and lost in transmission and distribution. This results into adverse environmental impact & therefore usage of DG sets and Coal for Power / Heating are restricted in NCR regions during winters.  

This challenge is addressed by a Natural Gas based Trigeneration technology which is the simultaneous generation of power, heating, and cooling. To optimise the available resources becomes very important to recover the waste energy for useful purposes. The energy wasted can be recovered by recovering waste heat to meet heating or cooling demand (by using Vapour Absorption Chiller) or both. This process increases the overall efficiency from approx. 30 % to as high as 85 % or even more. 

Indian building space is growing and accordingly the demand for air-conditioned space. As per the market assessment study, the overall market potential for India is around 15 GW and scalable up to 30 GW over the next five years. Trigeneration technology is a proven technology wherein projects are running successfully in different industries ranging from Commercial malls, Data Centres, 5-Star Hotels, Hospitals etc. for the last 6-7 years. 

Thus, Trigeneration using natural gas, to maximise and utilize the energy value of this cleaner fuel in its most highly efficient process, with its trifecta of benefits -  electricity, heating and cooling, can be a potent game-changer to India’s energy-intensive industries and especially for data centres, which require uninterrupted power and cooling. 

EESL with its unique Pay As You Save (PAYS) business model is prepared to implement and maintain trigeneration at suitable locations. EESL’s business model requires no upfront investment from the Client and repayments will be done from the savings that will incur due to the energy efficiency of the Trigeneration system. EESL targets several such projects across the country in the next few years and will play a leading role in this sector.
