Virtual Conference on
Strengthening Tribal Development:
A step towards India’s Growth Agenda

24 March, 2021

About Event

Tribal peoples constitute 8.6 per cent of India’s total population. Many tribals traditionally lived off the forest. But the forest is shrinking and they have been forced to try and cultivate fields. But where they live land is often in short supply and not enough to go around. There are smaller numbers of tribal people in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, in western India in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The majority of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) families are engaged in agricultural activities for livelihood. Still, they face a lot of infrastructure gap and challenges in the agricultural sector.

ASSOCHAM has been working closely with the Government, both Central and States, to support various initiatives, and with the Indian industry, to handhold them through these troubled times. ASSOCHAM as one of the oldest and largest apex knowledge chambers of India is dedicated to represents the interests of industry and trade organisations and is also a front runner to promote other social issues such as Rural and Sustainable Development.

With reference to the above, ASSOCHAM is coming up with a Virtual Conference on “Strengthening Tribal Development: A step towards India’s Growth Agenda on March 24, 2021, at 11 AM Onwards. With an aim to discuss the challenges faced by the tribal community and to prepare a concrete roadmap for the upliftment of the community through indulging in professions like agriculture, and taking prominent institutions such as NABARD, dedicated to the upliftment of the community.
