The Art of Jewellary   The New Jewellwer
India accounts for nearly one-third of the total world demand for Gold. The share of Gold in total import bill of the country reached at 9.6 per cent in 2010-11. Gem & Jewellery sector accounted for 16.67% of India’s total Merchandise Exports with volume of exports pegged at US $ 43bn as of March 2011. At more than 18,000 tones, Indian households hold the largest stock of gold in the world. The World Gold Council estimates the annual consumer demand for gold in India will be excess of 1,200 tones, at a value of Rs 2.5 trillion, by 2020.
The Indian bullion market is on the cusp of huge transformation. With the introduction of futures trading, gold is no more a product that is used only for making jewellery. With larger number of loan seekers, banks have become a vibrant hub for gold activities both for purchase as well as lending India can be a “distribution hub” for bullion for the whole of Asia. However, for India to become a world trading superpower there is a need for greater involvement of trade and industry with the Government.
Therefore, in order to discuss these aspects further, ASSOCHAM is organizing 6th International Gold Summit at 9:30 a.m. on May 15, 2013 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi.
