Rapid advancements in technology have brought about substantial progress in economy and have also affected our lifestyles. At the same time, fast paced changes in technology have resulted in rapid product obsolescence. This has posed a new environmental challenge i.e. disposal of E Waste.
Disposal of obsolete electrical and electronic equipments has emerged as a major challenge with environmental and health concerns. This emerging segment has also opened new business opportunities of increasing significance, given the volumes of e-waste being generated every year.
Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India notified "E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011" in May, 2012 which placed the responsibility of re-cycling of electrical & electronic wastes on manufacturers of such products.
With a view to take stock of the entire sector, ASSOCHAM plans to hold a Seminar on the topic E-WASTE: SUSTAINABILITY AND MANAGEMENT as per the following schedule:

This Seminar would endeavour to bring all stake holders on one platform so as to discus and review the regulatory requirements as well as best practices in handling and management of E – Waste.  Case studies will be presented to focus on issues that commonly emerge during handling, storage and / or disposal of E - waste.
Seminar will also be addressed by senior representatives of Central Pollution Control Board, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board as well as organisations engaged in segregation and disposal of E-waste. The event is supported by Karnataka Sate Pollution Control Board.
