Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industries of India (ASSOCHAM) is organizing a conference on “Tax Issues in real estate sector” at 9.30 a.m. on April 9, 2014 at Hotel Hindustan International in Kolkata.
West Bengal in the last decade has witnessed magnamous activity pertaining to urbanization and real estate sector. It is no longer the neighborhood builder constructing a G +4 residential premises. There is sign of urbanization is every façade of our landscape. With the entry of professional players, new age marketing companies, opening up of retail outlets of branded products in malls, construction of mini townships the working pattern of this sector has undergone sea change.
It is important to mention that with the growth of this sector a number of issues pertaining to service tax, capital gains tax, TDS, stamp duty etc has also simultaneously surfaced. The Indian Real state Sector operates under multiple regulations and a number of taxes are levied on real estate transactions.  Besides, the rates of raw materials such as cement and steel are different across cities. Hence, there is a need to ensure a fair system of taxation. The real estate industry cannot sustain growth in isolation. It requires supporting regulatory and tax structure too.
Under such a background ASSOCHAM has decided to organize such a meaningful conference so that the same benefits all concerned group viz. developers, planners, owners and decision makers, Tax experts, consultants, service providers and fund representatives.
We have invited Shri Debasis Sen (IAS); Principal Secretary –Urban Development; Govt of West Bengal and Chairman-HIDCO to inaugurate the conference.
We are also happy to share with you that ASSOCHAM and Deloitte has prepared a knowledge paper on the subject and we propose to release the same in the inaugural session of the conference.
