Chance for Kerala startupreneurs to generate funding & win prizes worth crores

Kochi, 08th January 2020: With an aim to provide an opportunity to startups in the region to reinforce their brand reputation, gain exposure to mentorship contacts and benefit from significant media attention, apex industry body ASSOCHAM is organising a startup pitch competition at Integrated Startup Complex in Kochi on Friday, January 10, 2020.

As part of its Launchpad - Startup Elevator Pitch Series, ASSOCHAM has come up with an initiative and platform for budding entrepreneurs in 12 tier II and III cities of India to pitch their ideas to corporates, investors, accelerators and media in order to get potential investment, partnership or exposure.

The ASSOCHAM platform gives the startupreneurs an access to industry experts who can give them guidance they need on business, product, marketing and also connect them with right people that can help with funding process and proper guidance on how to setup business case for funding.

For Kochi, ASSOCHAM has received about 100 applications from startups from across the region, of which 20-25 startups would be shortlisted to make a presentation at the pitching competition.

The eminent jury for Kochi round of ASSOCHAM Startup Pitch Competition includes imminent names like – Dr Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission (invited); Mr Anil Khaitan, Chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council on Startup; Mr G.S. Singhvi, MD, Hindustan Fibres Ltd. and senior member, ASSOCHAM; Mr Dileep Ebrahim, INQ Innovation; Mr Hari Ramakrishnan, Director - Innovation, E&Y and Mr Shilen Sagunan, chairman, Malabar Angels.

“The ASSOCHAM Launchpad is a selective opportunity for dynamic startup companies to obtain funding and guidance from Angel investors and expert judges and is available for startups dedicated to jump-starting their businesses,” said Mr Anil Khaitan, chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council on Startups.

“We at ASSOCHAM are providing a proven platform for upcoming companies to showcase their great ideas, as well as business expertise, passion to succeed and ability to grow,” said Mr Deepak Sood, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM.

The format of Elevator Pitch is such that the entrepreneurs and founders are given 300 seconds to explain the concept and idea of a service or product to a panel of judges and a big, live audience.

Early stage startups i.e. those between 0-2 years of operations and established startups between 3–5 years of operations are invited for participation. The top three winners from Kochi will be invited for grand finale in February 2020 at the Statue of Unity and will have the opportunity to win prizes worth up to INR 1.5 crore.

The launchpad works a little like a commercial incubator whereby people share their business ideas with ASSOCHAM Startup Council initially. Then, when a business plan is formed they meet with program mentors and local businesses in their industry.

The ASSOCHAM program both complements and supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship initiative of ‘Startup India,’ thereby supporting the spurring entrepreneurship ecosystem of the country. It incorporates mentorship and guidance from industry’s best leaders together with co-working space for all selected startups for a period of three months with no cost. Each of the startups making it would get three meetings with investors and a chance to pitch directly to them.

Besides, they will also get an opportunity to scale up and raise finance and/or technology or even marketing partnership with venture capitalists, mentors or independent professionals of global repute.

The selected startups will also get expert coaching and exposure with Pan-India incubation partner – New Delhi Institute of Management (NDIM).

Apart from this, KGS Advisors - knowledge partner for ASSOCHAM Launchpad is offering the top three from every city with the financial and compliance advisory services.

There would be Google Cloud vouchers available, besides a direct entry into the accelerator programme with IncubateIND, India’s fastest growing technology community network.

36 finalists (3 each to be selected from 12 cities) are expected to present their ideas at the grand finale in February 2020, of which the top three will be selected. There are prizes worth INR 1.5 Cr to be won. While top five startups will get $5000 each from AWS (Amazon Web Service), next 15 startups will get $2000 and the next 80 will get $1000 worth credits.
