Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Green Financing are increasingly becoming critical pillars for ensuring financial stability, inclusive growth and sustainable development in the Indian economy. The NBFC sector has evolved significantly in terms of scale, diversification of products, digital innovation and its ability to cater to underserved and emerging segments. Simultaneously, green financing has gained prominence as India accelerates its transition towards a low-carbon economy, supporting investments in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, climate-resilient projects and ESG-aligned initiatives.

The ASSOCHAM National Council for NBFC & Green Financing is mandated to address key challenges and opportunities faced by the sector, while fostering a robust ecosystem for sustainable finance. The Council plays a proactive role in bridging the gap between industry stakeholders, regulators and policymakers, ensuring a collaborative approach towards policy formulation and sectoral growth. It regularly organizes council meetings, webinars, summits, e-summits and roundtable discussions under the guidance of the Chairman and Co-Chairman to deliberate on emerging trends, regulatory developments and innovative financing models.

The Council functions as a policy advocacy platform and a thought leadership hub, focusing on areas such as regulatory reforms, green taxonomy, climate finance, blended finance, ESG integration and digital lending frameworks. It is committed to providing actionable recommendations, capacity-building initiatives and awareness programs to strengthen the sector and facilitate the flow of capital towards sustainable and inclusive growth.

Key stakeholders associated with the Council include the Ministry of Finance, Reserve Bank of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Housing Finance Companies (HFCs), Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), infrastructure finance companies, fintech players, multilateral agencies and other ecosystem participants.
