The real estate sector plays a vital role in the economic development of the country and has linkages to more than 250 ancillary industries and employs more than 10% of our workforce. Cities are engines of growth for the economy of every nation. Nearly 31% of India’s current population lives in urban areas and contributes 63% of India’s GDP. With increasing urbanization, urban areas are expected to house 40% of India’s population and contribute 75% of India’s GDP by 2030. Cities hold tremendous potential as engines of economic and social development, creating jobs and generating wealth through economies of scale. They need to be sustained through the high urban productivity for country\'s economic growth. 

  
The Government of India has been supportive to the growth and development of Housing sector by addressing various issues through policy implementation. However, there is need to re-look at the sustainable and growth oriented functioning. With ongoing urbanization, the demand for housing in India is ever-increasing alongside growing population. Accordingly, housing for all needs to keep pace with it. Housing is a multifaceted economic activity with both wide and micro economic effects. The interdependence of growth in the real estate sector with other segments of the economy, necessitates a conducive policy environment, modern infrastructure, and an investment-friendly climate.

  
The requirement of multiple clearances from multiple Government departments, delay in grant of approval by civic authorities, a lack of funding sources, and budget overruns due to significant delays lead to delays. Hence, there is a need to reform the approval process and make it more transparent. Therefore, to discuss various issues related to RERA, Financing and Affordability in Housing sector, ASSOCHAM is organizing a National Conference on ‘Real Estate India- Ease of Business and Affordable for Sustainable Growth’ at 10:00 a.m. on February 8, 2023 at Hotel Shangri La, New Delhi. The Conference will bring together all concerned groups to a common platform to provide impetus towards sustainable solutions in real estate projects apart from sharing knowledge and experiences amongst stakeholders for an in-depth understanding of issues related to the sector.
