The ASSOCHAM Council for Indirect Taxes serves as a leading Industry Policy Forum, making significant contributions towards creating a business-friendly tax environment that supports Ease of Doing Business, Business Competitiveness, and the growth of the Indian economy. The Council partners with industry, government, and other stakeholders through advisory and consultative processes to bridge the gap between policymaking, policy interpretation, and policy implementation.

The Council has consistently worked closely with the Ministry of Finance, playing a proactive role in shaping India's tax policy, trade policy, and broader economic reforms. It regularly engages with senior government officials, policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to deliberate on key tax initiatives, regulatory reforms, and emerging policy challenges. Through publications, conferences, seminars, round-table discussions, and knowledge initiatives, the Council disseminates industry insights, promotes public policy dialogue, and creates awareness about the Ministry's initiatives and reforms.

ASSOCHAM played a significant role in creating awareness about the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime by organising 25 conferences across the country and publishing four specialised knowledge papers. During the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), ASSOCHAM conducted more than 150 sessions nationwide, including 75 training and awareness programmes, to familiarise trade and industry with the provisions of the new tax framework.

The Council continues to advance public policy, regulatory reforms, and stakeholder engagement on matters related to indirect taxation, contributing to a transparent, efficient, and globally competitive tax ecosystem that supports sustainable economic growth and strengthens India's business environment.
