India is home to 1,531 operating mines and produces 95 minerals - 4 fuel-related minerals, 10 metallic minerals, 23 non-metallic minerals, 3 atomic minerals and 55 minor minerals. The Metals and Mining sector in India is expected to witness a major reform in the next few years, owing to reforms such as Make in India Campaign, Smart Cities etc. Government has initiated various reforms such as Mineral Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which would open a new era in Indian coal & mining sector, especially to promote \"ease of doing business\" and the National Mineral Policy 2019 which was launched for transparency, better regulation and enforcement and balanced socio-economic growth of the sector along with the National Infrastructure Pipeline in 2019 which plans to invest Rs 100 lakh crore (US$ 1.43 trillion) over the next five years. there is significant scope for new mining capacities in iron ore, bauxite and coal and considerable opportunities for future discoveries of sub-surface deposits. ASSOCHAM National Councils on Mines and Minerals is formed with the objective to take regularly take up National and Global issues of prime importance to the interests of its members. It continuously interacts with the Central and State Governments and play an important role in the shaping various policy formulation.
