About

Amitabh Chaudhry has had a long and distinguished career spanning 38 years across various sectors in India and abroad. Amitabh is the MD&CEO of Axis Bank since 1st January 2019. He leads Axis Group, a financial conglomerate, with a world class leadership team and a clearly defined vision of fulfilling the aspirations of a new, resurgent India. Over the last six years, Axis Bank has turned in industry leading performance on growth, profitability, and sustainability, with a deep focus on digital, customer experience, Bharat banking, risk and governance.

Before joining Axis Bank, Amitabh was the MD & CEO of HDFC Life. During his nine years stint which started in 2010, he built one of the most valued life insurance franchises in the country. 

Amitabh started his career with Bank of America in 1987, where he donned diverse roles like head of technology investment banking for Asia, regional finance head for wholesale bank, CFO(India) and various senior roles in the wholesale banking side of the businesses. After 16 years of banking, he switched careers and became part of the founding leadership team at Infosys BPM in 2003, building a successful process outsourcing business across seven countries. Apart from the BPO business he also ran the validation unit for Infosys for sometime.

He has also served as Director on the board of several reputed organizations and has received numerous awards and recognitions. He chairs the Boards of Axis Capital Limited, Axis Finance Limited and Axis Asset Management Company Limited. 

Amitabh is an Engineer from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and holds a postgraduate degree in Business Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.
